The search for 'likes' and the tragedy on the track: the run-over of MC Tuto that exposes the limits of power

A serious incident marked last Friday (24) in Barueri, in Greater São Paulo, when MC Tuto, whose real name is Emerson Teixeira Muniz, was arrested in the act after running over a young man with a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, year 2023, valued at around R$1 million. The accident occurred during the recording of an unauthorized music video, in an area restricted to pedestrians and leisure, in front of the José Corrêa gym, brutally exposing the consequences of recklessness and the search for visibility.

The scene of the collision reveals a shocking lack of planning and respect for safety standards. According to G1, MC Tuto was driving at a speed “absolutely incompatible with the road”, a square where vehicle traffic is prohibited and intended for community leisure. Videos released by TV Globo and reported by Purepeople show that the MC was driving the wrong way and, even more seriously, filming himself with his cell phone at the moment of impact. A camera attached to the hood of the Porsche also recorded the scene, adding a layer of complexity to the case.

Brazilian legislation, although it does not expressly prohibit filming in public places, imposes limits. Bill 6171/16, under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies, seeks to ensure the right to record, but always respecting people's intimacy, private life, honor and image. In the case of commercial audiovisual productions, such as music videos, the IDEA Institute points out the need to delimit the area, notices about recording and, ideally, terms of authorization for image use. None of this seems to have been observed in MC Tuto's production, transforming a leisure activity into an imminent risk.

"The MC stated that he was driving the Porsche with a camera attached to the hood. He said he was going to start the second lap around the square when he felt an impact", reports Folha de S.Paulo, citing the singer's statement to the police.

The conflict is evident: on the one hand, the artistic freedom and ostentation inherent to the universe of funk; on the other, public safety and the life of a pedestrian. The victim, a 25-year-old young man, was hit in an area where he should have been safe, and his condition is serious, with suspicion of attempted murder according to police findings, reported UOL. This incident is not just an accident, but a symptom of the “anything goes” culture in the name of entertainment, where the power of a luxury vehicle and the rush for content override human life.

The practical consequences are devastating. For the young man who was run over and his family, the impact is incalculable, transforming an ordinary day into a fight for life. For MC Tuto, the Porsche's ostentation now translates into an arrest and charges that could take him to justice for attempted murder, as reported by G1. The case serves as a warning to producers and artists about the imperative need to obtain authorizations and strictly follow traffic and safety laws when recording on public roads. The search for visibility cannot justify disrespect for life.

The developments promise to be intense. MC Tuto, who has already accumulated millions of views on his songs, will have to face criminal charges for his recklessness. The police investigation will detail whether there was intent, that is, the intention to run over the victim, or possible intent, when the risk is assumed. In addition to the legal implications, the case will certainly provoke a debate about the responsibility of public figures and the fine line between art and illegality in a country where traffic accidents already represent an epidemic. Portal Cunho will remain attentive to each stage of this process, seeking answers for who truly holds the power and who bears the consequences.
